R. ブルーヘルマンス先生のバイオグラフィー
1987年に、オレゴン大学において、言語学と日本語学の優等学士号を取得。翌年に来日し、明治大学大学院修士・博士課程を経て、1994年から医学翻訳業務に携わり、医学英語の専門家としての道を歩み始める。
1997年からは東京医科大学で医学英語担当の非常勤講師として従事し、2002年5月に同大学の常勤講師となり、2005年8月から准教授として教鞭を執る。
東京女子医科大学消化器病センターでは、医学英語コンサルタントとして症例検討会に参加する。
英文校閲者として、『茨城核医学』、『日本プライマリ・ケア学会誌』、『日本臨床生理学会』、『Allergology International』に貢献している。
さらに、「日本旅行医学会」では理事、「日本医学英語教育学会」では評議員、「Medical Interpreters and Translators Association」では事務局長として活躍しており、所属学会には「European Association of Science Editors」、「日本メディカルライター協会」、「American Medical Writers Association」、「International Photodynamic Association」、「World Association for Bronchology」が挙げられる。
これまでに数百人もの日本人医師や研究者の論文投稿に助力し、海外の一流生物医学雑誌への研究発表を支えてきた。
また、health-related quality of life（健康関連QOL）を評価するための質問票の翻訳・バリデーションにも携わっている。
日本国内外の学会や、日本人医師を対象としたセミナーにおいて、医学英語、医学英語教育、医学分野での研究発表について等、数多くの発表を行っている。
Biographical skech of Raoul Breugelmans
Raoul Breugelmans has lived in Japan for seventeen years and has complete fluency in written and spoken Japanese. He received a double-major BA degree with honors in Linguistics and Japanese Language from the University of Oregon in 1987. He then completed the Master and Doctoral courses in Japanese Linguistics at Meiji University in Tokyo.
After working as a medical translator from 1994 and lecturing part-time in Medical English at Tokyo Medical University from 1997, he became full-time Assistant Professor in May 2002 and Associate Professor in August 2005 at the same university.
He serves as consultant to the Department of Gastroenterology of Tokyo Women’s Medical University.
He is English language editor of the Ibaragi Journal of Nuclear Medicine, the Journal of the Japanese Medical Society of Primary Care, the Japanese Society of Applied Physiology, and Allergology International.
He serves as Director of the Japanese Society of Travel Medicine, Councilor of the Japan Society for Medical English Education, Secretary General of the Medical Interpreters and Translators Association and is a member of the European Association of Science Editors, Japan Medical and Scientific Communicators Association, American Medical Writers Association, International Photodynamic Association and World Association for Bronchology.
He has assisted hundreds of Japanese physicians and researchers in publishing their work in top-level international biomedical journals.
One of his areas of expertise is the linguistic and cultural adaptation and validation of health-related Quality of Life (QoL) instruments.
He has given numerous presentations at Japanese and international congresses and at medical English communication seminars for Japanese physicians throughout Japan, on topics related to medical translation, medical English education, and publishing in the medical field.
